What is ChronoTab?
For members, managers and admins
ChronoTab is the tool your team uses to record time against GitHub issues, review that time, and turn it into reports and client timesheets. Every entry is tied to the issue it came from, so the hours in a report can always be traced back to real work. It is not a project-planning tool: there are no estimates, and no money or rates appear anywhere in ChronoTab.
The three ways to log time
Section titled “The three ways to log time”You can record time in whichever way fits the work you are doing. The duration rules are the same everywhere, and every entry lands in the same place.
- From the dashboard. Open the Log time sheet from My week, or press Alt+T (⌥+T on a Mac) on any page, and search for the repository and issue. See Log time from the dashboard.
- From a GitHub issue page. With the ChronoTab browser extension installed, use the button on the issue to open a time-log drawer without leaving GitHub. See Log time from GitHub.
- With a
/spendcomment. Comment/spend 2h30m fixed the auth bugon an issue and ChronoTab records it against that issue. See Log time with a /spend comment.
Where to start, by role
Section titled “Where to start, by role”ChronoTab has three roles inside an organisation: Member, Manager and Org admin. What you can see and do depends on your role.
| If you are a… | Start with |
|---|---|
| Member | Sign in for the first time, then My week to review and edit your own time. |
| Manager | Everything a member can do, plus Reports, the timesheet lifecycle and editing other members’ entries. |
| Org admin | Everything a manager can do, plus the Administer group: Members, Clients, Settings and the Audit log. |
The complete permission matrix is in Roles and permissions.
Before you can use ChronoTab
Section titled “Before you can use ChronoTab”You can create your own organisation with GitHub, join your team’s, or have NFN Labs set one up for you. You sign in with GitHub, or with the Google account your organisation uses. If you have not been added yet, start with How you get access.
