Create your organization

For admins

This page shows you how to create your own ChronoTab organization. There is nothing to send to NFN Labs and no setup call to wait for: whoever creates the organization becomes its first Org admin.

  • A GitHub organization owner. Connect your GitHub organization, and every owner of it becomes a ChronoTab Admin.
  • A personal GitHub account. Create a workspace just for yourself. You can connect your team’s GitHub organization later as a separate organization.

You need a GitHub account with a verified email address. Only a GitHub organization’s owners can connect it to ChronoTab.

  1. Open Get started with ChronoTab. It lists the steps and what ChronoTab can see in GitHub. Choose Connect your GitHub organization.
  2. Sign in with GitHub, and allow ChronoTab to read your email address when GitHub asks. If ChronoTab asks Continue as @your-login?, check it is the right account and choose Continue.
  3. On Install the ChronoTab GitHub App, choose Install on GitHub. For a team, pick your organization, not your personal account. Choose whether ChronoTab may read all repositories or only the ones you select, then confirm the installation on GitHub.
    • If the App is already installed on an account you own, ChronoTab shows Continue with an existing installation instead. Pick that account and choose Continue, or choose Install on a different account.
  4. ChronoTab checks your GitHub access. Keep the tab open; it moves on by itself.
  5. On Set up your organization, fill in:
    • Organization name: how your organization appears across ChronoTab.
    • Address: your organization’s address in ChronoTab. It is filled in for you and can’t be changed here.
    • Timezone: the timezone your work days are measured in. A work day runs midnight to midnight in the timezone you pick, so choose it carefully.
    • Members (GitHub organizations only): add all current members of the organization now and new members automatically, or just the owners for now. The page lists the GitHub owners who will become admins.
    • Accept the Terms of Service, then choose Create organization.
  6. ChronoTab creates the organization and opens your dashboard. If you chose to add all members, it adds them in the background while you start working.

Your My week page then shows a short set-up checklist. See What to do first.

GitHub only lets an organization’s owners install the ChronoTab GitHub App.

  • If GitHub offers to send a request to your organization’s owners, you can send it. ChronoTab shows Request sent: an owner approves the install, then finishes setup from Get started.
  • Otherwise, ask an owner to create the organization. If the App is already installed, they skip straight to setup.

If you try to connect an organization you don’t own, ChronoTab tells you that only an owner can connect it.

Joining a team that is already on ChronoTab

Section titled “Joining a team that is already on ChronoTab”

If your organization already uses ChronoTab, you don’t need to create a new one. ChronoTab tells you so if you try.

  • Ask an org admin to add you from the Members page. Your GitHub username is shown on your GitHub profile.
  • Or sign in with GitHub. If your organization adds members automatically, you may be signed in to it straight away; otherwise ChronoTab tells you to ask an admin.

ChronoTab limits how many organizations can be created each day. If you see Sign-up isn’t available right now, try again later.

If you get stuck, for example a sign-up that will not finish or a question about who should own the organization, contact support@chronotab.com.
