How you get access

For admins

This page explains how an organisation is set up on ChronoTab and who does what during setup. It is for the person acting as your organisation’s Org admin.

There are two ways to get an organisation on ChronoTab:

  • Create it yourself. If you own a GitHub organization, or you want a workspace just for yourself, set it up in a few minutes. See Create your organization.
  • Have NFN Labs set it up for you. This page describes that route, and what your org admin provides.

Your Org admin arranges the following with NFN Labs:

  1. The GitHub organisation whose time you want to track.
  2. The GitHub App that lets ChronoTab read your repositories, installed on that organisation: the ChronoTab GitHub App. The GitHub owner opens the link, chooses the organisation, selects the repositories to track (or All repositories), and confirms the installation. ChronoTab uses the installation to know which repositories and issues it may read, so time can be tied to real work.
  3. The installation ID: after the owner installs the App, GitHub shows a page whose address contains a number. Copy that installation ID and send it to your NFN Labs contact, so the setup can be finished.
  4. The identity of the Org admin: the email address and GitHub login that should hold admin rights on the organisation’s ChronoTab account.

Once setup is complete, sign in to ChronoTab with the same Google or GitHub account whose email/login you gave as the Org admin — see Sign in for the first time. You do not need an API key to sign in to the dashboard or to connect the browser extension: the extension connects through sign-in.

A GitHub App installation does not, on its own, give people a ChronoTab account. Members are added in one of two ways:

  • An Org admin adds them from the Members page, choosing a role (Member, Manager or Admin). See Members and roles.
  • Or the organisation can sync members from the GitHub organisation automatically, if that is switched on for your organisation.

Once you have been added, sign in with your organisation’s Google or GitHub account. The first run-through is in Sign in for the first time.
